A Different New Year's Resolution
>> Monday, December 30, 2013
It's that time again to look at the past year with all of its plus and minuses. There are things you wish you could change and things you accept and move on, to change for the future. Have you ever realized something about yourself, vaguely had an internal glimpse or heard someone mention your shortcomings. You may have quickly brushed it over or after so many years it was just not in your spectrum of consciousness. Then one day, that short coming comes into sharp focus as a result of an event.
I will now admit, mine is anxiety. I have diagnosed myself as having anxious feelings that can sometimes get the best of me. It makes me impulsive, cut people off in mid conversation; while they are speaking and I am ashamed to say I have had the nerve to finished others sentences. My family understand my enthusiasm, but of course not everyone is as sympathetic as family and close friends. So my New Years resolution this year is an emotional discipline rather than the typical need for physical transformations. I will be working on peace, patience and inner silence, which is difficult for an extravert.
I will be reading a lot on the subject matter to help me make the change and having good conversations. Today, I found this quote that floored me and will be using it throughout the year to help me:
"Almost nothing need be said when you have eyes." by Tarjei Vesaas
This year instead of making a change for a New Year's resolution that changes the physical, join me in a New Years resolution for character building. Emotions tend to be overlooked. When this year someone says, "There is something different about you, new hair style.... did you loose weight..... your skin is so clear...." You will know it is as a result of your inner beauty and glow of character.
